The mirror is one of the greatest predictions we have for the direction of our day.
For the direction of our life. If we look in the mirror and we see someone who is not enough, that someone will show up to everything in life believing they are not enough. We rarely make a liar out of the mirror. So, on the other hand, if someone looks in the mirror and sees strong and able and ready, it's very difficult for life to steal that image away. Life rarely shapes the mirror as much as the mirror shapes our lives. The world is full of events, but life is built on how we see those events. And how we see those events largely starts with how we see ourselves. A practice I'm getting better at is before I go to the mirror in the morning, I ask a question. A question directed at God. That question is: how do you see me God? Because if I know God, and I believe I do, God's answer will never be anything but "beautifully made." You are my child and I am well pleased with you. Do you know God once blared those words into the sky about Jesus. And he said them before Jesus had ever worked the first miracle or performed anything remotely supernatural. God looked down at Jesus and said, this is my son, and I am so pleased with him. I wonder if God did that because he wants us to know every morning before we do even the first thing, including looking in the mirror, that he is well pleased with us. That he is well pleased with us and he believes in us. God knows when we look in that mirror, we'll be tempted to believe the lie that we are ill-equipped to tackle our day. God wants a chance to remind us of the truth before we ever get to that mirror. The truth that he created us enough, and there has never been nor will there ever be anything that can make us less than that. When we feel less than in a situation, it's not because we are, it's because we are believing a lie. Most likely a lie we brought to the situation from the mirror. So, maybe you will want to practice this too. Before you go to the mirror go to God. Be reminded you have always been enough. You always will be. It's a practice that will make you better than ever at spotting a lie. Especially the ones the mirror likes to tell. You are enough this day. You always have been. You always will be.
