Much has happened in my life that I didn't see coming that in turn made me a better person. But if I were to accept that as the main way to grow, I might be inclined to see growth as happenstance and not something that comes from taking a stand. What does your calendar look like for tomorrow? I am sure it is filled with things life will demand of you. Appointments. Places to take your kids to and places to pick them up from. Work obligations and tasks. There is no hiding from the reality that the nature of our lives comes with expectations and demands and responsibilities that pave the road of that life. But does your calendar include anything you're going to do in pursuit of a better life? Something that might help pave a new or better road? A block of time toward a dream. A block of time toward better health. A block of time toward a healthier relationship. Our calendars often indicate how we are doing this life thing. Along for the ride or steering the ride. And no, steering the ride doesn't mean I'm in control of the direction of my life. But it does mean the ride isn't going to go along without me shouting a few directions out loud. Life is not meant to be a spectator sport. But for sure, if we're not careful, it can turn into one.
