This morning, Bob Goff says "God knew we would be weak on our own and stronger together. The way we love each other is the best evidence that Jesus is still alive."
Throughout the bible, God compares his body of believers to our human body. And isn't it fascinating that our human body is wired primarily for one thing: to keep us alive. To be successful, the human body needs all it's parts working together. We are seeing painfully close what happens when a virus starts to incapacitate parts of the body. Even when it eats at what seems like meaningless little cells in our respiratory system, the body begins to fail. In times of illness, you learn just how critical some previously overlooked parts of the body are to keeping us alive. I'm seeing some of the same things happening when it comes to keeping Jesus alive. Parts of his body of love that have been overlooked are suddenly on the front page of major newspapers: nurses and grocery store clerks and teachers and small businesses continuing to pay employees and stay at home moms and dads and ordinary me and you sewing masks together in our living rooms and on and on and on. I see people saying, let's flood social media with positive stories. And you know what those stories often consist of? Unknown heroes answering the call to love - just love. When the human body is fully alive, it is incredible of doing miraculous things. But, I think sometimes when we're in the middle of those miracles - I think of me running a marathon - we forget all the little parts working together to keep that body alive. As we rightfully honor the beautiful stories in this crisis, I hope we'll recognize how they've come together. They've come together as the individual pieces and parts of miraculous stories work seamlessly together to create miracles. I think if we recognize that - long after our current miracles are needed - we can still create some miracles. And keep his love alive.
