It's a new week.
This week has gifts and blessings it wants to deliver to every one of us. Many of us, though, we will miss them. Not because the blessings won't arrive, but because we'll be too busy believing we aren't worthy of them to notice or accept them. There are a lot of us stuck in feelings of unworthiness. I've been there. Sometimes we get there because of things other people have said or haven't said to us. Sometimes it's life circumstances. Sometimes we let our emotions and not our logic have the strongest voice in our lives. The best of us are capable of getting stuck in feelings of unworthiness. What I've been discovering is the best way to stay stuck is to wait around for someone to show up with a tow truck and pull us out. I believe we all do need that tow - we all NEED someone - but we can't afford to wait around on them. And, I believe, it's easier to see how many people truly want to help us when we start believing we are worth the help. I get reading these words doesn't make everyone suddenly feel more worthy. But I also get the power of saying the words, "I am worthy." I get waking up and deciding, you know what, I'm going to start living like I'm worthy of all the things I've convinced myself I'm not worthy of. We can all do that today. We can go for a walk, and while we're walking tell ourselves we're worthy of feeling healthier. We can read a book or watch a video that teaches us something we never knew, and while we're doing it tell ourselves we are NEVER too old to learn something new. We can watch an episode of The Office or Schitt's Creek and laugh out loud, and while we are tell ourselves we are worthy of laughter. We can pick up the phone and call someone or shoot them a message and tell them THEY are worthy, because nothing makes us feel worthy more than knowing we're the kind of person that adds value to someone else. A lot of our feelings of unworthiness didn't start with us. I get that. But a lot of them can begin ending with us. We are the authors of our own story. You have a pen in your hand right now. I'd suggest starting the story of your week with these words: I am worthy of every gift and blessing that comes my way this week. Because I assure you - you are.
