Well I am up and at em and off on an adventure. A long Sunday Drive. I'm headed to Devil Fork Gap in Flag Pond, Tennessee.
Everything about that location says adventure. 😯 I'm headed to meet my friends Celia Eicheldinger and Meg Landymore who are running the entire Appalachian trail over the next 17 months. Because they are both moms and working professionals, they do it in long weekend segments. By the time I get to them, they will have run 70 miles since yesterday morning. This will be the end of their 3rd weekend of running since starting this trek last month - for a running total of nearly 300 miles. The trip is about 5 1/2 hours each way - add in a little hiking so I can greet them on the trail and not in the parking area - it could sound like a long day. But nothing about it feels like a long Sunday - it all feels like a way to invest in life in the places where life invests in me. I've known Meg for a couple of years, but I've never 'met' her. I've only recently got to know Celia, but have never 'met' her either. So when I actually meet up to them in the middle of a trail and a journey that's been an online inspiration to me, it will once again be a reminder that online spaces can become places where real lives and real stories intersect. And THAT is inspiring. Life can inspire us if we're willing to invest in the right places. I suppose it's a lot like the stock market. Sometimes we pour money in to it but it doesn't give back. I've been way too guilty of pouring time and energy into areas of life that never had a chance or any interest of investing back in me. I'm not financially smart enough to be very good at the stock market game. But life - well I've paid the price for enough bad investments to start getting pretty good at identifying the good ones. I have no doubt that today I'm going to literally run into the woods and into two of the best investments life can offer. And I'll come out fired up to tackle this new week doing a little investing of my own. That makes this long Sunday Drive a drive that's exciting. One that's full of promise. Invest in life today - invest in the places where life is going to invest in you.
