12/4/2020 0 Comments mary did you knowMost of us are familiar with the Christmas song Mary Did You Know? The song is occasionally criticized for not being biblical. If you've read the Christmas story you know Mary did indeed know she'd be giving birth to the Savior. So I guess some people think the song asks a question the bible clearly answers.
But I think the song writer is asking what I too would ask. What I think would be really cool to one day ask Mary. I mean, you, Mary, a teenager, leaning on nothing but the words of an angel, did you REALLY know what your child would be? Be to you and to me and to the world. Did you really see walk on water and sight to a blind man coming? I ask that with great sincerity and curiosity. Because I know this - I had no idea what was coming when Jesus came into my life. I couldn't begin to anticipate the magnitude of the miracles that were coming my way. I am walking sight to a blind man. I am the hopeless overwhelmed with hope. I am darkness filled with light - a brilliant and beautiful light. I wonder - do some people not take hold of this Jesus story because they, too, don't know what's coming. Maybe Mary didn't know, but she eventually did. Oh, she knew. I mean, I have proud "did you see what my boys just did" talks with the other parents at their flag football games. Can you imagine the chats Mary had with the other parents around her? I didn't know but now I do. And what I know, this Christmas season, is no matter where I am and what I'm doing and facing, I have sight and hope and light like I never imagined. It would be fair to ask, Keith did you know? The answer would have been no. But it's yes now. I know. Every day I know. He's there for us all to know. Maybe you don't know now. Man do I completely get that. But you can.
