Now is always better than later

Picture
I'm starting the new year feeling under the weather, but I am not going to start the new year by NOT writing. But I am going to shamelessly let one of my favorite writers, Seth Godin, do a little of the writing here this morning.

In his blog this morning, Godin says:

There’s a better cause right around the corner.
It might not work.
You’ll never be able to keep all the promises.
It can’t last forever.
We’re all going to die.
It’s not perfect.
Someone might steal your idea.
There will be critics.
You’re not ready.
Someone else is going to do it.
It’s not that important.
It might not work.

MIGHT AS WELL QUIT.

I think Godin is accurately predicting the voices many of us will begin hearing in our heads this morning. For the past week, we've let OUR voices speak with hope and inspiration about the new year. We've talked about the things we've never done that we will absolutely get done this year. Things we were afraid of that this year we will take on in spite of fear.

We all just need to know, OUR voices are right. Please believe me, they ARE right. We can do it. Whatever that 'it' is in your world, your voice was right last week. The hope of a new year, the promise of a clean slate - that is real hope and a truthful promise.

The voice inside your head doesn't want you to believe them because that means that voice becomes irrelevant in your life. That voice that has always had center stage - the voice talking you out of your best self - well that voice becomes nothing but another face in the crowd when you give YOUR voice a leading role.

That voice feels your excitement this morning. It's afraid of you, and what might become of it if you follow through with your fire. So it will be louder than ever today, and tomorrow, and maybe even for weeks ahead - until it finally believes you are going to spend 2022 listening to you - and not it.

So when that voice tries to convince you to delay your fire, remember, the voice knows your history. It knows if it gets you to delay, you ultimately give up. That is you.

So don't delay. Know that now is ALWAYS better than later. While that voice is clammoring away - you do NOW.

And when the voice tries to convince you you're not ready because your fire won't be perfect. Tell the voice it's full of crap; because nothing is perfect.

Perfect is an illusion.

I am so rooting for all of you in 22. I am so joining your voices as you tell THAT voice - now is better than later, perfect is an illusion.

Happy New Year all. May God bless you and keep you and always - ALWAYS - smile upon you.

Smile upon you and every fire he has lit within you.
