It's Monday. A new week. Some of us are struggling to accept that. To embrace it.
Some of us don't feel like showing up today. If so, it's likely because we showed up last week and made a mess of things. Maybe we've made a mess of our last year or decade. Messes can work against us because they usually aren't our biggest cheerleaders when it comes to helping us out of bed on a Monday. You'll more frequently hear your messes telling you to roll over, not roll out. The thing is, as uncomfortable as our messes are, as challenging as the consequences of our flaws and failures might be, they are gifts. They are gifts that marked a time in our life when we made the choice to show up, to try, to take a shot, to pursue something on our hearts. Yea, trust me, I know, failure isn't the best way to feel honored for showing up. But it might absolutely be best thing that ever happened to you when it comes to preparing you to show up the next time. When I take inventory of the things I feel I'm most equipped to show up and do today, almost all of them are rooted in a history of me showing up and screwing them up before. In some cases, screwing them up often. A fulfilling life isn't built on showing up to constant success. A fulling life is constantly showing up feeling stronger than ever as a result of our mess. Flaws and failures are a part of life. Maybe they are the part we pay the most attention to. And that's Okay. As long as we embrace them as the reason we show up today feeling more equipped than ever. Everyone in this world has a collection of messes. Some of the world will stay in bed and hide under their covers with their messes this morning. Some of the world will roll out with their messes and tackle the world with newfound strength and wisdom. I'm rolling out today. I have my messes - boy do I - but they don't get the final say. Not today. Today I'm rolling out and showing up. I'm encouraging you, do the same. Stand down or show up? It's your choice.
