If you think about it, we are all moons. We don't create our own light, we reflect light the that shines on us; we reflect light that gets poured into us. And like the moon, that big pockmarked rock in the sky, if we aren't properly positioned, it's possible we will never shine.
What does it mean to be properly positioned? I believe love is the ultimate form of light. So when we're properly positioned, we're in a space where we can receive and reflect love. Bryant McGill says, "Love is the light that brightens every heart's darkness." I think we were all created to be light - to be an inspiration. But what if the beauty in the inspiration we pour out is a reflection of the love that finds its way in. What if the way we shine on the world is a reflection of the way the world shines on us. I had a friend tell me yesterday they felt like they deserved to have a partner - a connection - in life. What I felt them saying is - I feel like I deserve a chance to shine my light on this world. We forget that some days. Or maybe we just don't think of it this way. But there are a lot of moons walking around in the world wanting to shine. They are waiting to have their darkness lit up by love. They are positioned to be a light in this world. There are days this world can feel like a dark place. It's not because the world doesn't have enough sun, it's because not enough suns are looking for a moon or two to light up. You know, Jesus called himself the light of the world. Maybe he thought of himself as the sun. And maybe that's why, when he told us the greatest commandment he could offer us was to love one another, maybe he was asking us to take that sun and light up a few moons. Maybe he knew that although he is the light - that light was never going to do all that he longs for it to do if it doesn't find a moon. Or two. Position yourself to receive love and light today - and then find a moon to make sure it reflects far and wide.
