6/2/2026 0 Comments Will You Take The Steps?Yesterday, I looked at my step count for the month of May. I averaged over 8,500 steps per day. For some, I realize, that is not an eye-popping number. But for me it is. Mainly because it's the most steps per day in a month for me since August of 2023. Almost three years.
I ran my last marathon - my last race of any kind, actually - back in November 2021. Since then, my commitment to running and fitness in general has been in an intermittent freefall. There have been many months since then when I've said: "This is the month." Only for it to turn out to be NOT the month. Something I know about me, something I've learned along the way of pursuing many goals in life, I am GREAT at vision. I can see and map out the way to get there as good as anyone. And that's important. You can't get there if you don't know the where and how of getting there. The thing about vision, though - once you map out the steps, you have to have someone who will take them. Make them happen. And when that vision is for a personal goal, that someone is YOU. Almost always when I haven't achieved my goals, it's because I've been unwilling to take the steps. There have been reasonable reasons - explanations - life situations - along the way. But none of them adequately hide the truth: I've been unwilling to take the steps.... The reality is many of us come to social media: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube etc. - we come looking for the videos or reels that will give us the latest trick or hack to making things happen. Well, once again, this past month I've been reminded: we all KNOW the trick! We ARE the hack. Take the steps. Looking outside yourself for the hacks is a distraction. Take the steps. Explain away why you can't take them, or... Take the steps. I have a goal that I will not finish 2026 without adding another significant race medal to a collection of medals that is right now gathering dust in the dark corner of a closet. I have a vision of pulling that medal rack out, hanging it on the wall, and adding the latest medal. I can see it. I can feel it. But I know this - it will never happen if I don't take the steps. Take the steps. In May I did. I am a long way from there, but THERE is impossible without taking the steps.
